  • Take a text-heavy research report and design and produce an attractive alternative in an infographic style
  • Use easy-to-understand visuals to simplify and clarify key information
  • Create a different look to other reports on the market
The products:
  • Digital download version to support workshop-based events run by Curium
  • Hard-copy versions for workshop attendees
  • A collection of graphic assets to help with promotion of the report and related events across social media channels.
THE PROJECT
Curium communications and marketing consultant, Kathryn Hobbs, wanted to create a visual report design from their 'AI & Robotics: from science fiction to business fact' research report.

We were asked to turn the text-heavy research document into “an eye-catching report”, where the design brought out the main points through infographics, pull quotes and supporting visuals.

Our approach focussed on the two areas that we believed were essential to creating a design that met Curium’s specific requirements.
Easy to follow structure
Creating a report design that guides readers from one area of content to the next keeps them engaged for longer. The less work the brain does to find and digest information the better.

We often receive content as a Word document where one page looks very much like another. Presented with this, most readers would struggle to stay engaged throughout a lengthy report.

Our job is to use our experience to read, understand and split a report into sections and pages. A large part of the early planning phase is deciding which information is the most important and which is the least. Kathryn’s report provided ample opportunities to pull out important information, quotes and data. 
Unique and engaging illustration style
Visual reports require graphics that not only make them look attractive, but that also:

- Help to clarify and explain key points
- Help readers pick up important information quickly
- Set the tone of the document.

In Curium’s AI report, the content was about technology but also about people. Kathryn wanted the design to look professional but engaging, and different from other AI-focused reports by avoiding clichéd robot-human imagery.

Our solution was to create a suite of illustrations in a simplistic icon style, which also picked up on Curium’s own branding.
